The Through Our Eyes Film Club (TOEFC)is a natural progression from our ongoing, informal work in arts education to a more formal process. It allows us, for the first time, to move beyond showing kids our work in the classroom to providing them with the hands on experience of making films. It also demystifies the film business and provides young people from lower income neighbourhoods with real options for careers. From writing and directing for film and television to working on the “floor” as a grip or gaffer, TOEFC is about giving kids significant insight into their future possibilities.
Another important element of TOEFC is to help the kids develop and realize stories that are connected to their experiences. These kids from diverse backgrounds and experiences have important things to teach each other about their lives, dreams and feelings. They get to explore that through film.

In 2007 Through Our Eyes produced 7 films made by 22 students between grade 7-8. The films also premiered to a packed audience at the 2006 anniversary Summit. The films are now making the festival rounds.
